off Trove - The Argus Friday 25 June 1948 - Obituary Col Arthur Hamilton
Colonel Arthur Hamilton, Salvation Army died at his home Denman Ave Glen Iris yesterday morning at age 76.
He was a Salvation Army officer for 50 years and had served in Japan and New Zealand. He was Financial secretary in NZ before he retired in 1937.
He is survived by his Widow and daughter.
A service will be held in Camberwell Citadel at 2 pm today before the funeral leaves for Box Hill cemetery.

There is a Marriage in NZ for a Aileen May Hamilton 1949 Folio no: 12044 but no spouse name and NZ BMD cuts off before that date.

That's very interesting. He is a great-great-uncle. I had no idea. Perhaps he married in NZ and perhaps Aileen was born there, so I'd better check.

That's the extracted record with the error. No mistaking the 'Eighth' for birthdate.

I got a copy of the birth certificate when I was in Dublin.

Yes, it looks like a 't' in the middle.

And I still can't work out the Registrar's first name.
