Hello my name is Ian. Im just up the road from you Dave in the New England region NSW.
I did a google search, and you had an item relating to a Michael Lee that I am looking into.
He died 27th July 1874. He lived at Norton st Glebe and was a Dray proprietor.
I would really appreciate any info you have on Mr Lee
Thank you for your help.
Regards Ian

Hello Ian and welcome to the Forum.

I'll check my tree. If I remember correctly most of the info came from a tree with no proof it was correct.

Dave

This is all I have so far and I don't know yet if the convict is the same person as the one with the baptism or the one who married RC St Mary's Sydney.
I don't have a copy of that marriage yet.

Michael baptised 17 Aug 1826 St Michael’s Limerick City – parents Jeremiah Lee & Ally Mullins.
Ireland Catholic Parish Registers

Convict Pardons & Ticket of Leave
Michael Lee 'Clyde' (2) 1838 Tipperary 13 March 1839 13 yrs.

Michael married 12 May 1851 St Marys Cathedral Sydney to Catherine Eustace – he died July 1874.

Marriage V185195 97/1851 LEE MICHAEL - EUSTACE CATHARINE LD= RC St Marys

Death 2368/1874 LEE MICHAEL - JEREMIAH - ALICIA - GLEBE * 27 Jul 1874

Evening News (Sydney, NSW) - Mon 27 July 1874 p.2
NEWS OF THE DAY.
Michael Lee the well known dray proprietor living in Norton street Glebe was seized with a fit this morning and almost immediately expired.

This needs more work. I can't say yet how much is correct.

Michael's brother John is the connection to my tree hence the lack of research so far on Michael.

It will be Tuesday or Wednesday next week before I can get a copy of the marriage.

I can't confirm the baptism. Not on two sites but on a third.

Name: Michael Lee
Baptism Age: 0
Event Type: Baptism
Birth Date: 1826
Baptism Date: 17 Aug 1826
Baptism Place: Limerick, St Michael's, Limerick city, Ireland
Diocese: Limerick
Father: Jeremiah Lee
Mother: Ally Mullins

It's not this one and he is the only one in the Transportation Database.

Michael Lee, one of 31 convicts transported on the Gorgon, February 1791.

Something is not right. That tree must be wrong. Need age at death in 1874. Or age at marriage. Or both.

This does not fit.

Michael Lee
Alias: Irish Rebel: Religion: Catholic Age on arrival: 22
Marital status: Single
Calling/trade: Labourer
Born: 1816 Native place: Tipperary Co
Tried: 1838 Tipperary Sentence: 15 Former convictions:
Ship: Clyde I (3) [1838]
Crime: Stealing sheep
Description:
Remarks:
Spouse:
Died:

The RC marriage if we are lucky might list the arrival vessel.

I have no evidence Michael was a convict. Someone did suggest he was but the details supplied did not fit so I removed that ref from my tree.
I still can't find his arrival. I'm hoping the marriage will contain some useful details.

I've not yet been able to find Catherine's birth or her arrival ?? No photo of a headstone on ACI.

I hope to get to the library next Tuesday or Wed for an image of the marriage. Well not an image of the church register - that will have to wait for a visit to a different library - the Mitchell. An image from the local library of the form the church sends to the registrar general that does not contain everything in the register.
