Anyone got access to Australian records? I've tried the few I have access to. I am looking for Peter Murray Gilchrist and wife Elizabeth. Peter was born in 1861 in Sheffield, was an apprenticed cutler, and married Elizabeth in 1881. I think he may have emigrated some time between 1881 and 1887. There is a Melbourne newspaper article about an explosion in a gunmakers shop in Bourke street in 1887 that may be him. I c

Appears to be on his own, did Elizabeth die and not make it to Australia??
Married June quart 1881 and on his own Oct 1882
I haven't found anything after their marriage. Though its difficult with Murray Gilchrists often to find them as they were devout Wesleyan Methodists. Nothing has turned up in newspaper archives or Sheffield Indexers. If she did die soon after marriage most probable cause would be childbirth.

Yes I have now looked it up. Unfortunately doesn't say very much except he is Robert Murray Gilchrist's older brother.

Not sure how much you want or need DW so just use what you can and ignore the rest.

Ricarda [Peter's 2nd wife?] was married to a William Anderson and had a daughter who died in 1883. I can't find a birth for daughter Victoria who was mentioned in Ricarda's death notice. R Burt is mentioned in the below death notice as per Ricarda's death index

The Mercury (Hobart, Tas. : 1860 - 1954)
Mon 30 Jun 1884

Deaths.
ANDERSON.—On June 16, 1883, at her aunt's residence, Boundary-road, Hotham-hill, Seaby Ella Violet, infant daughter of William and Ricarda Anderson, and granddaughter to R. R. Burt, of Hobart, aged 5 months and 2 weeks.

I'm beginning to think that Peter and Ricarda never married. Doesn't matter what names or wildcard i use nothing is coming up for marriages for them. Tried different states such as Tasmania, nsw and Vic and nothing.
