This baptism fits with the Edge Green address given in both Census entries

Baptism: 4 Oct 1812 Ashton Chapel, Ashton in Makerfield, Lancashire, England
Thomas Ball - 3rd Child and 2nd Son of William Ball & Margaret, Daughter of William & Mary Ridyard
Born: 8 Sep 1812
Abode: Edge Green Golborne
Baptised by: Rev. E. Sibson Curate
Register: Baptisms 1810 - 1812, Page 19, Entry 401

Likely baptism

Baptism: 26 Oct 1788 St Mary the Virgin, Leigh, Lancashire, England
Peggy Ridyard - Daughter of William Ridyard & Mary
Abode: Pennington
Register: Baptisms 1782 - 1797, Page 70

I cannot find a Ball/Ridyard marriage but this one looks reasonable

Marriage: 28 Dec 1806 All Saints, Wigan, Lancashire, England
William Ball - (X), this town [Wigan]
Margaret Redhead - (X), this town [Wigan]
Witness: Wm. Bancks; James Davis
Married by Banns by: John Gibson
Register: Marriages 1803 - 1812, Page 155, Entry 770

Thanks emeltee.

Very handy having the abode and Margaret's parents. This was ruled out previously because occupation was weaver.

Witness: James Lees; Timothy Taylor
Married by Banns by: Danl. Birkett Vicar

Hiram, Israel and Maria you have and Thomas and William baptised Ashton in Makerfield fit nicely into the gap between John and Simeon. Not sure as to hy they weren't baptised in Lowton. Thomas fits as the third child and second son, although William is something of a conundrum, unless, of course, the Vicar (or the person giving the info) got it wrong.

Large number of coal mines in the area.

If William only worked in the Edge Green mine then a bit odd re children's baptisms.

Edge Green Pit opened before 1830 and finished winding coal in 1920.

Will never know why the change for children's baptisms - St Luke then St Thomas then back to St Luke.

Also won't know if William was employed in the one mine.

One marriage now ruled out for sure and a few more baptisms so progress.
