Hi
I have found the baptisms of three boys on the 22 Aug 1880 at Saint Luke's, New Kentish Town. They are William Edward COOPER born 27 Jul 1869 Father William Henry COOPER Mother Harriet, James Samuel DICKS born 25 Sep 1873 Father James DICKS Mother Harriet, Arthur Henry DICKS born 1 Dec 1876 Father James DICKS Mother Harriet. I sent for the birth certificates of William and Arthur and the parents on both certs are William Henry COOPER and Harriet nee HODGES. William married as William Edward DICKS in 1890 and emigrated to NZ in 1907 he only used the surname DICKS in NZ. Is there any way of proving William Edward COOPER and William Edward DICKS are the same person.

Regards

June

Hi

Yes we have a copy of church marriage and the census records in the 1891 census Arthur is living with William and his new wife and I was searching for his birth in the London Parish BDM's on Ancestry when I found these baptisms it was a shock because we were told that there had been a spelling change to the Dicks surname from Dix, not a compleatly different name. Caroline COOPER in the 1871 and 1881 census is William Edward's full sister. I am still trying to find her baptism I think I have found her civil registration in the Dec Quarter 1865. Thanks for the replies I am about 95% sure they are the same person we do not know William's birthdate yet I have a couple of places to try in NZ.

All the best

June
