Hi gibbo,

The ones with BBP on the Qld. BD&M site are baptism records. However, from experience you will find the earliest with a 1854 date even though some actual births and baptisms were actually 1852 or 1853 from newspaper entries.

I've had more luck with Qld. 1850s births and marriages by searching newspapers.

Regards,

Dave

Hi gibbo,

The opposite also happens as per this example;

BBP2820/1854
Alexander Wesley NOBLE was baptized a Wesleyan on 18 Feb 1855 by the Revd. Nathaniel Turner - Parish of Moreton Bay & Ipswich, County of Stanley. Copy of the certificate confirms his date of birth as 15 Nov 1854, gives the parents' abode as Brisbane, and the father's profession as Carpenter.

I have a death cert for a George Gibson and it states he died in 1950 and he was 88 at time of death and therefore he would have been born around 1862 and it also states his place of birth as Cameroo Station Queensland. I have checked the bdm for queensland and cannot find his birth, i then wrote to the qld bdm and they to could not find it. They sugested that since he was born on a station his birth may not have been registered. Maybe he may have been baptised at a later date??? even if the birth was not reg.
Has anyone else come across a birth not been registered but they have been baptised?

Hi Gibbo
I have certainly got one of my husband's ancestors whose birth was not registered born in 1848 in Scotland. His wife died in childbirth and he presumably forgot even though both were advertised in the paper. I still have not been able to find the birth.
I should think it was entirely possible that they forget to register the birth with or without the baptism
