Hi, Having traced my father's side back to 1841 with lots of help from this forum. I have looked on the 1911 census but not sure if the entry is my mum's parents as I always thought they lived in Bill Hay St. Can you help please.



Name Doris Elizabeth Barlow, Birth: West Bromwich Staffordshire Age about 7 (1911)

Sister: Audrey Barlow (birth after 1911?)

Hi Libby, Yes that's the one, But mum always said she lived in Bill Hay St west brom. Never knew my grandparents on this side. My granddad was killed in the great war and my nan died in the early 50's and never knew her first name. My mum was still single in 1927, I have a painting signed by her apparently she is descended from Francis Barlow - the artist

The last entry is Horace Evans - boarder

hi mike

perhaps they moved not long after to the address that she remembers, and so you dont know the name of your grandadfather then ? let me know what you have on them so far including your mom and any siblings and i will see if i can try and help you, i know what its like to hit a brick wall

The parents of the Doris on 1911 are John Richard and Phoebe married 9 years
John Richard married Pheobe V Hill in Jun 1902 W. Brom

Audrey V was born to parents Barlow/Hill mar qtr 1918 W. Brom

I reckon you've got the right ones

Thanks Libby and Dave, How do you get this info so quickly? Obviously I need to join something! or subscribe to something?

Another question: I have generated tree using 'rootsmagic' the file has a .rmg extension. which is the best way to transport the file and read on another PC. Snip-it or do I have to convert the file?

Thanks Steve and Dave, any chance of pursuing the male Barlow line to the 1841 census, My mum always said she was a descendant of Francis Barlow 1626 - 1704. I would like verify this.

I am not sure gortonboy, my mum always said he died in the 'great war' but the above seems to contradict this. As an aside, In my youth I visited the L and Y railway works at Gorton.

Thanks gortonboy, can you confirm the 'other record' gives his full address (6 Harvills Hawthorn, Hill Top, West Bromwich) as per 1911 census, chances are he was still living there when he 'joined up'
