Hello

This is my first post. I live in Ontario Canada. I'm trying to track relatives of my late grandfather Sidney Ernest Bassant. I believe he was born in the Kent area. I believe he had a sister Lucy. He served in ww1. His son, my father who has passed, is John Bassant. He had a brother Sidney, sister Dorothy and Annie.

Hi Sue,

Looking on the 1901 census his father was:

William E Bassant, born c1857 in Minster, Kent. He was a labourer at the brickfield.

Looking at the census I think William's wife isn't Sidney's father as they have a group of children with a different surname, Bourne.

I have found a marriage for William Edward Bassant to Mary Jane Bourne (on the census she is Jane M) in 1900 in AMJ in the Strood District. This means her children were Sidney's step siblings.

Looks like Sidney had a full brother Edward (A), born c1887 and a brother (Henry) Alfed in c1889.
(Bits in the brackets are the info from the 1891 merged with the 1901).

Jumping back ten years to 1891...

William's wife is Emma, born c1860 in Sittingbourne, Kent. I would imagine she is Sidney's mother.
As well as the sons already mentioned they also have an Albert C, born c1885.

Edward William Bassant married Emma Heaton AMJ 1880 in Milton district.

Hope this helps,

Tom

thank you so much for the information. Hopefully someone in my family can verify some of this. You must be a pro at this because I couldn't seem to dig that deep. I think you need to be a paying member to get much of the information. I appreciate the your efforts.

regards
