this website has been very helpful thanks to some caring people. I was provided with information on my grandfather and great-grandfather. My grandfather was Sydney Ernest P Bassant born 1882. His father was William E Bassant born 1857. Some records have the first and middle name switched. I would love to find out his parents names if anyone has access. William was born in Milton district - Minster Kent. I have also seen reference to Sittingborne Kent.

Hi Sue

What was Sydney's mothers name? I think I have found an Edward William Bassant marriage in the June Quarter of 1880 in Milton District. On the same page is an Emma Heaton and Harriet Richards. Ref 2a 1204.

The marriage cert should give Edward's fathers name. I cannot yet locate him on the 1861 or 1871 census.

Hi

I think I found a Wm E Bassant in the 1901 census aged 44 with wife Jane. Sidney is listed with them aged 18. Wm gives his birthplace as Minster which must mean Minster in Sheppey, Kent.
