Battle of Inkerman

Does anyone have any information about how to find a relative that served in this battle. Im not sure of the name but I have an Inkerman Hawes Gilpin born in 1855 with no father on the birth certificate and thought maybe he was named after someone in that battle with the surname Gilpin or Hawes, its doesnt seem that his mother married.
