Hello crankypants,

I think this one will be a bit tougher given the 'German' connection. Probably some 'historic' region such as Preussen or Wurttemberg.

Carl Friedrich BAUER b. ? d. 1891 Bowral

3844/1891 BAUER CARL F CARL AUSTINA BOWRAL

NSW Naturalisation
BAUER Carl Friedrich Germany 1 Oct 1862 3 43 - [4/1202] 130

Deceased Estates
BAUER Carl Frederick Kangaloon 20/11/1891 18/03/1892 -
BAUER Elizabeth Kangaloon 4/05/1905 20/07/1905 -

married Elizabeth WAGERLE (spelling?) b. ? d. 1905

6595/1905 BAUER ELIZABETH CHRISTIAN - ROBERTSON

Two children that I know of:

William Frederick b. 1859 Campbelltown d. ??

Charles Frederick b. ? d. 1929 Byron Bay

married 1881 Wollongong

Margaret SLUSHER b. ? d. 1929 Murwillumbah

23829/1929 BAUER MARGARET WILLIAM ANNA M MURWILLUMBAH

I've had no luck so far finding any info on Margaret

Charles & Margaret had 8 children so I have several queries to follow.

Please see what you can find.

Thanks.

Hello crankypants,

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=monaropioneers&id=I130183

All 12 children have birth reg with parents as Carl & Elizabeth even though the claimed marriage is the 1869 one where it is not Carl but George C. So Carl and Elizabeth WHEATLEY had no children?? We have three 'Elizabeth' and only two death reg and at least three 'Carl' and only two death reg. The pairs I have don't agree with the Monaro database.

It's a case of 2+2=5 again

367/1869 BOWER GEORGE C LINGER ELIZABETH SYDNEY

This death seems to be the correct one for Elizabeth LINGER:

8702/1908 BAUER ELIZABETH WILLIAM SARAH BEGA

1951/1878 BAUER CARL FREDERICK WHEATLEY ELIZABETH WATERLOO

I don't know if the 1905 death is that of Elizabeth WHEATLEY or the mysterious WAGERLE. I suspect it is not the former with father = Christian.

6595/1905 BAUER ELIZABETH CHRISTIAN - ROBERTSON

I do not think the Carl who died in Bowral is the spouse of Elizabeth LINGER as claimed by the Monaro site because a son William Frederick was born in 1859. I'd say he is one generation earlier.

3844/1891 BAUER CARL F CARL AUSTINA BOWRAL

Dave

Hi Dave

You realise I've taken you off the christmas list.:'( :'(

It not too late to skip "B" and go to "C":2fun: :2fun:

There's a whole BAUER clan in Queensland and everyone up there have the same names as the BAUER Clan in N.S.W. Lots of fun to be had here trying to unravel the Bauers just in NSW.

1872 Greville’s Official Post Office Directory
BAUER Charles farmer & selector --- Kangaloon East

1875-76 Greville’s Official Post Office Directory
KANGALOON, EAST
BAUER, Charles, farmer

1903 N.S.W Electoral Roll – Illawarra – Kangaloon
BAUER William Frederick, Kangaloon West, farmer
BAUER Charles Frederick, Kangaloon West, farmer
BAUER Margaret, Kangaloon West, domestic duties
BAUER Sophia, Kangaloon West, domestic duties

1910-1932 N.S.W Sands Directory - PASTORAL
BAUER W, Bangalow
BAUER, C. F., Bangalow
Edward J, Bangalow

There are more BAUER farmers in N.S.W, like Bega, Barellan, etc. and guess what another BAUER C. F at Rockleigh, Nashua.

(Found only one reference to the WAGERLE name)
1900 Yewens Directory Landholders New South Wales
ROBERTSON - KANGALOON EAST P.O
WAGERLE, Ludwig

Hello crankypants,

:2fun:

I think this one will be a bit tougher...
Ok, a deal, we can skip all the BAUER in Qld. and Bega and only do the ones with connections to the Robertson area.

Thanks, that confirms that it's at least possible that the Carl in my tree did marry Elizabeth Margaret WAGERLE, probably not in Australia.

Let's totally ignore the Monaro site stuff.

I have a Carl Frederick and spouse Elizabeth (WAGERLE) both at Kangaloon. I have two sons:

Charles Frederick probably born 1854 outside Australia and naturalised when he turned 21 in 1875.

William Frederick b. 1859 Campbelltown d. ?

You might find Charles & Margaret in ER in Division of Richmond.

They had 8 children but only 4 survived to marry.

1. Charles Frederick married Stella V FURNER and they both died in Lismore.

ER Richmond ?

2. Minne E married Leslie Charles FURNER

ER Riverina

3. Mary A married John Enright in 1902 St Leonards - no other info - no deaths for either

4. William Albert married Alma PLUNKETT

ER Richmond

Thanks.

Hello crankypants,

I continue to have no luck finding anything about Margaret SLUSHER.

Th only thing I found re WAGERLE was that Ludwig used to own a parcel of land involved in the study of the Marulan gas pipeline route. Nothing in IGI.

I've had no luck finding anything on John Enright who married in 1902. I can't find a service record:

All said they were single
Not John Ambrose S/N 373
Not John Joseph S/N 3231
Not John David S/N 53343

Dave

The only one I can't find is John & Mary A ENRIGHT. There are 2 Mary Ann's but they don't matchto a John.

Hello crankypants,

It looks as though SLUSHER is a variation of a probable German name.

Hello crankypants,

I've looked for the deaths to see if they had the same parents but can't prove the SLUSHER were sisters.

I noticed no SLUSHER births or marriages in FreeBMD at all. I'd say we are stuck.

I think we can move on to some FURNER siblings.
