Hi Dave

Probably not going to be much help here but I found a Carl & Elizabeth arriving in 1857. (Adelaide or Sydney) not sure what that means. Are ages too old to fit your Bauer's. Perhaps not yours.
NLA has The Arago with German Immigrants from Hamburg arrived in Sydney September 1857.

Hello crankypants,

Thanks. Wurttemberg would fit. I'll see what I can find now to rule them in or out. If that son aged 4 had been named Charles F then it would have fitted. :)

I'll see if I can find age at death for Carl or Margaret. Or perhaps a burial in Southern highlands, although I know there are lots of small cemeteries.

Regards,

Dave

Hello crankypants,

The family is not listed with other BAUERs who arrived in SA. It seems they may have lived there and not NSW because I can't see a marriage or death in NSW for Catharina (variations) or Johannes (John and variations).

Lots of Carl Friedrich BAUER births in Wurttemberg but none with parents Carl & Austina. I can't see a marriage for Carl & Austina in any of the German States.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave

Just checked B.I.S.A cd and can't find arrival in S.A for Carl & Elizabeth BAUER.
No other children born in S.A. No marriages for their children.

Maybe they went to QLD.

cheers

Hello crankypants,

Thanks. I'll search some more. :)

Large number in Queensland. Found a marriage for Catharina but at age 16 and on checking her death - wrong parents. So, I can't see any of those on that passenger list in Qld. or in NSW as duplicates. Are that mine after all?

This one is not the son unless the parents listed on reg are wrong and if it's the father he was 104. :D

3695/1924 BAUER CARL HENRY MAGDALENE BEGA

14138/1937 BAUER JOHN HENRY MADELINE BEGA

So I'd say that's not Johannes either. But this could be and location fits and I have no John / Johannes in my tree:

Marriage # 4190/1883 BAUER JOHN SAWTELL JANE ROBERTSON

Jane died at Rockdale on 18 Dec 1923 aged 70. Can't find John's death yet.

Regards,

Dave

Hello crankypants,

I've found one: :D

Catharine Wilhelmine Bauer

Birth: 7 MAY 1851 Kleinbottwar, Neckarkreis, Wuerttemberg

Father: Carl Friedrich Bauer
Mother: Elisabeth Margaretha Maegerlin

It does appear as Elisabeth Margaret but WAGERLE looks a corruption ???

Carl is Charles b. 9 Sep 1853 and Johannes is John b. 5 Jul 1856 all privately submitted IGI entries.

Regards,

Dave

Hello crankypants,

It seems to have fallen into place nicely. :)

Elisabeth Margaretha Maegerlin = Elizabeth Margaret WAGERLE

Carl = Charles married Margaret SLUSHER (SCHLOSSER)

Johannes = John married Jane in Robertson

William Frederick born in 1859 - the first birth registered in NSW.

Regards,

Dave

Hello hopper,

I'm only distantly related by several marriages. My grandmother is a FURNER hence the branch in my tree. A few people wonder why some branches are in my tree at all. :)

I'm curious about the Elisabeth Margaretha Maegerlin and later name WAGERLE. Have I made a mistake or is the name a modern corruption?

Regards,

Dave
