There is a Charles Bays hatter in the 1851 census born 1805 with son Alfred Charles 1836 in Cambridge. Could it be an extremely fancy H and Hat Manufacturer as the S for Surrey has extra loops too.

Yes, he was a hatter in census. Must be a very fancy 'H' then.

Mary Jane's father ? Is it Joseph as per witness?

I don't have her in census before the marriage.

Born Hugh Noble and he added the middle names later. He ended up dying in the Cascades Asylum in Tasmania.

Mary Jane's father was Joseph Moore. She is on the census with him in 1851 aged 16 He is a tailor and foreman of the Philanthropic Society, London Road. Joseph 45, wife Ann 42, also children Fanny 14, Louisa 8, Joseph 6, Charles H 5, Henry 2, John 1.
Living 4 Manor Terrace, Newington.
