Watched it last night, although very interesting not what I would call a 'classic'.
I think the BBC could have made a second episode on his Grandfathers 2nd family.
I wish my Mum had kept as much family history as Rory's.

Hi

I would love them to find my ancestor George Coombs and to prove my 5xgreat grandfather Richard Titshalls baptism in Suffolk c1764.

I love WDYTYA, but I do wonder how much research the celebs actually do for themselves.

I don't care if they don't do any, or loads.

But it has given millions of people ideas, how to research their own families.:)

I just wish it was on 52 weeks a year. And as Benny said, it would be nice for them to do an 'ordinary' person.

I'm off to put my name forward.:)

Hi

It makes genealogy seem so easy. We have to slog away for hours in a record office looking for our forebears but they have it all done for them and I wish I could sit down with the book of baptisms or poor records of my ancestors and be shown them.

Hi Everyone,
I was away last week but I"m going to make sure I tune in tonight,
I agree they should do a programme for us ordinary Folks, instead of all these Celeb"s who can more than well afford to pay for their own research! ( Oh Lord! I sound like the typical Grumpy Old Woman) I almost added after all it"sus who pay their wages through the License Fee.(Anyway I didn"t so there!!)

Maybe we ought to send off a Petition nominating UK History Members to do it.

Happy Hunting All,
Best Wishes Littlemo

Hi

I agree. I do think, though that a lot of the stories featured on the show are pretty much based on likelihood and based on strong conjecture and circumstantial evidence. I am not certain that every story is 100% proven, just like some of ours.

Now that WDYTYA is so very successful, it has put so much money into the hands of the Exchequer. All our records that were sold off, all the money that has been generated by airing WDYTYA. How many people have gone in search of their ancestors after watching this programme, which also is on state sponsored television.
We have paid our TV license.
We have paid our Govenments wages.
We are paying for all the bmd certs.
We have paid for TNA to be set up.

The volunteers in most of Family History Societies around this country must feel cheated.

So what I am saying, I think, it's about time we got something back from all this, without having to pay for it all the time.
Rant over.
WDYTYA is still a very good programme.

Let's have a 'commoner' on WDYTYA, god knows we have paid for it.

Hi

I think the celebs had this done all for free. We cant be so lucky. They must have several people doing research on their behalf and they dont have to dip into their pocket and pay them even a penny.
