This is the maiden name of mother in law who was born in Kingston, Jamaica. Could anyone tell me the origin of this name as it seems to draw a blank from anyone researching it!

I am also looking into the surname Gonsalves, also from Kingston - if anyone can help with where this comes from. Been told it has Portuguese connections!

May be something or nothing. But there is a Carribean island called NEVIS, and was once a sugar plantation in the 18th century.
It was owned by John Pretor Pinney, whose accounts are now held in Bristol, somewhere.
