Bernard Oates c1821. Ireland.

Hi all.

I don't hold out much hope of finding the origins of this family, as all census returns in England, only say Ireland as p.o.b.

I assume the move to Manchester, England was between 1848 to 1854.

There is gap in the childrens births of those born in Ireland, and those born in Manchester, because of two reasons possibly.

Bernard Oates remarried, or the children in those intermediate years have died because of the famine. 1845-1852 or from other ailments.

**Birth cert gives mother maiden name of MULLICK.

There are extremely vague references to Co.Leitrim & Co.Roscommon by searching for Bernard in FamilySearch.

Any ideas anyone.

Sorted out Bernard Oates(1860). Thanks G.B.

But a mystery for John & Thomas Oates c1857.

All seems OK until the 1881 census, when John Oates p.o.b changes to Roscommon from Manchester, as in previous census. But Thomas Oates p.o.b remains the same.

In 1891, John Oates appears to have gained another mother Mary Oates, but born 1812. Roscommon.

So I traced this 'mother' back, and she appears to have been married to Thomas Oates 1812. Roscommon, Ireland.

No I ask myself, would his other mother actually be his Aunty instead of mother.
Therefore would Thomas Oates(1812) actually be his Uncle, and therefore(maybe), the birthplace of his own father Bernard Oates(1821) be Roscommon also.

Oh my head hurts.

Can anyone see a marriage for Bernard Oates to Mary Mullic/Mullick around 1842, in Ireland.
I know, it's a big ask.:biggrin:

Michael Isaac Oates, c1842.
Margaret Oates c1846.
Mary Oates c1849.

Then.........
Charles Oates(Oats), 1854. Manchester. mmn. Mulick.

Year of birth is a bit out, by 3 years. Not having found Margaret Oates baptism or parents marriage, it's speculation.!
