For those of you familiar with Bertram Merrell's Index of English Marriages, a site containing a searchable database of his research has been created at http://englishmarriages.byu.edu The site was just launched this very afternoon so it still lacks some descriptive content (which should be added during the next week or two), but a functioning database containing over 12,000 names has been posted. The database is scheduled to more than double over the next year. Pay a visit and let me know if you run into any errors or have any suggestions for the site.

Thanks!

Thanks.

I found one marriage of interest to me.

Richardson Thomas Bower Martha Wilmslow 19 Feb 1765

I'm puzzled by the Advanced Search option.

For Groom Surname = Richardson
For Groom Age = 18 +/- 1

3 hits and only one with 'Richardson' as part of the data.

Looks as though I'm a beta tester.

For Groom Surname = Richardson
For Bride Age = 18 +/- 1

9 hits and none with 'Richardson' but 9 under age brides.

Looks like it is OR and not AND.

Regards,

Dave

Thanks for catching that. You're absolutely right. Luckily that is currently only an issue when searching for minors. I'll be able to fix it soon. Probably Tomorrow. Thanks for noticing that and let me know if anything else comes up.

Hmmm, I am probably not using it correctly, but just typing in the surname Alvey produced no results.

Subsequent searches using both bride and groom again produced no results.

O.K. Got it now - Cheshire - a place where we never were!
Makes me dummy of the day I think.
Good site though!

Dave,

It should be fixed now, I've run a few test cases and it seems to be working, but let me know if you run into any other issues. Yeah, it's still in "beta" mode. but there shouldn't be any more errors. Thanks again for your help!

I'll have a look. ;)

Go to last page and then change the Items Per Page setting and you get:

120 records found. Page 4 of 3. :)
