Hello Barbara and Dave,
Just trying to tie up loose ends, here!
Sorry, I omitted the word “deceased” in the 1908 marriage!
Searches for marriages of Amy and Arthur produced no results, so no more help on that score!
The only silk weaver I can find in 1881 is a 73-year-old living with his wife Anne at 4 William Street, Bethnal Green. (They are at the same address in 1871.)
So, where to go next?
There is no further info on the 1862 marriage of Charles Robert Slater, that I can find, so at present we don’t have an age for Charles!
As Dave suggests in one of his posts, Mary may have been deserted, but continues to declare that she is a “wife”, as in 1881.
It’s also possible that she was a “single mum”, telling all her children that their father was called Charles. There’s also a chance that Charles the silk weaver of William Street was the father of her children. Maybe they worked at the same place. But this is merely speculation!
The purchase of a birth certificate for one of the children MAY just help, as it will show Mary’s maiden name.
Below are the references for the other three children.
Amy Slater, Q4 1873, Bethnal Green, 1c 223
Arthur Slater, Q3 1877, Bethnal Green, 1c 245
Alfred Ernest Slater, Q2 1880, Bethnal Green, 1c 219
If I find anything else, I’ll get back!
Best wishes,
Josie
