I have a baptism for Daniel Finch:

e: Daniel Finck
[Daniel Finch]
Baptism Date: 19 Dec 1802
Parish: St Mary the Virgin, Twickenham
County: Middlesex
Borough: Richmond upon Thames
Parent(s): Joseph Finck,
Margart Finck
Record Type: Baptism
Register Type: Bishop's Transcript

I also have a death for him:

Name: Daniel Finch
Record Type: Burial
Age: 71
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1799
Death Date: 6 Jul 1870
Burial Date: 6 Jul 1870
Burial Place: Saint Mary the Virgin, Twickenham, England
Parish or Poor Law Union: Saint Mary the Virgin, Twickenham
Borough: Richmond Upon Thames
Register Type: Bishop's Transcript

But I don't have anything in between, I find it a bit odd, surely he should be in at least one census??

Many Thanks

Amanda

hi Amanda

I think St Mary Twickenham was a lunatic asylum, which may explain why you can't find him on census. There are records where just initials are used but nothing jumps out

No luck under Finck. I see that some records have the name Finck on the census but there have been an alternative of Finch submitted. Seeing that his death is recorded under Finch, there is on FMP a Daniel Finch British Royal Navy Personnel 1831 born 1800. Probably a long shot but may be worth a look. I can't see a record for the above on the TNA.

The parish of St. Mary's in Twickenham did have a lunatic asylum. Not that that means your ancestor was there though!
The parish church is St. Mary's, plus there was a St. Mary's CofE school. There is also now a St. Mary's University.
So St. Mary's is a parish with a church - not just a lunatic asylum.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for looking, I guessed the Parish church was also St Mary's as his brothers and sisters were all baptised there. The weird thing is I can't find a thing on his brothers Joseph or Edward either, but I have records of the three sisters and their marriages, I've found a William and a Henry Finch, but I don't know if they are related.
I'll take on board your suggestion Julie that he may have been in the navy and possibly the brothers too. I still don't have a death for their father, also Joseph, but I know their mother Margaret remarried in 1819 to a James Knight.
I also know Margaret was born in Shropshire, but don't know if she and Joseph were married there or in Twickenham. Not found a marriage there so presume it's Shropshire, but I don't have access to Parish Records.

Thanks again

Amanda

July 6th Union Workhouse ,Where most hospitals were in those days. Have you tried for a Poor Relief record, he would still need to have been admitted that way.

I don't know that he was admitted, I would like to find some census first. St Mary's was the parish church, which is why they were all baptised there. I'm also missing one of his brothers Edward, other than his baptism I have nothing else.
