I have one or two instances where the birth was registered just days after the event.

I suppose many of you have had similar experiences?

My ancestors cousin was registered in 1856 two days after the birth.

They were given 42 days but its amazing how quicker some parents were at registering their offspring's births.

Hi Benny

I think often this was done if the child was not expected to live, so that if the worse did happen then it could be given a proper berial, and a record kept of its birth and death.

I think many parents registered their children straight away. Before 1875 the registrar himself went round the district and made notes of new births and some may have been just a few days before registration.

My husband registered our children all within a couple of days of their birth. Some people just like to get the paperwork over with and not have to remember to go later on.
