Does any one know of a registration index for Australian BMD?
Something along the lines of the BMD indexes for England & Wales.
I have tried the National Archives but haven't had any luck with their site yet.
Seems a little strange that Australia doesn't have an easilly accessable index like the UK has.
Anyone have any clues?

That would help a lot! Particularly if they were born in England and died in Australia and also if they were a brother or cousin of the person you were looking into, it would save a lot of confusion.
I have tried Ancestry.com.uk, but they haven't got them - or they haven't got them for the relatives I am looking for.

Hi BRL........hope i got that right

Let me know who you are looking for and i will do a quick look up if you want, i need to be in town next week, anyway.

It can be hard to find people on the English fiches, however the Australian ones are much better to look through.;D

Hi Smee,

Thanks for the offer. I am mainly after Adelaide records at the moment.
I have some confussion with the spelling of this ancestors name as it has been listed a few different ways.
I know him as John Dedrich Andersen born 1848 in norway but don't know where abouts.
He has also been listed as
Johan Diderich Andersen
John Dendricken Andersen
John Demican Andersen & John Derrick Andersen

I'm going with the first one as that is the name of an uncle who was supposed to be named after him. He was a Mariner.
He Married Sarah Thompson in 1883 in Glanville Sth Australia.
He had 2 sons
John Thomas B1884
Oliver Matthew B 1887

I am after his death. I was told he died in 1873. Which can't be as it is before his childrens birth. I am guessing it should be 1893 but have been unable to confirm. His wife died in 1908. All events should be here in Sth Australia.

I haven't even attempted to find him overseas yet. Thats the next step.

Thanks Peta

Hi Peta

Yep that looks a bit confusing with all those names, will have a look anyway and get back to you, it is rather strange when the dad dies before the kids are born........I have a history of oddness in my husbands family, including bigamy.laugh.

Well will catch you later.

Hi Peta

Lots of different spellings of names..at least except for the Andersen......lol

Here is what i found out about Johan Andersen.

Johan Diderich Andersen (35y s) married Sarah Thompson (36y w) on 25th march 1883 in Glanville Adalaide............Port Adalaide....V134..........pg 1430
father of Johan Diderich Andersen is Olaves Andersen

Sarah was born as Sarah Rowan. She first married James Thompson

Sarah Rowan (25y s) married James Thompson (31y s) on 26th january 1869 at Trinity Church Adalaide, ......Adalaide..........78..........pg 204
father of Sarah is Thomas Rowan......father of James is David Thompson.

Children of 2nd marriage to Johan Andersen

John Thomas Andersen bn. 16th June 1884 in Glanville, Parents are John Dendricken Andersen & Sarah Rown

Oliver Matthew Andersen bn, 22nd April 1887 in Glanville, Parents are John Demican Andersen & Sarah Rowan

Sarah did die in 1908, here is record.

Sarah Andersen d. age 61yrs on 15th Febuary 1908 in Glanville, she was married to Diedrich Andersen
Port Adalaide..........332..........pg.......67

I will look up other information tomorrow, what was Johans job. was he a Mariner by any chance? If so he could of died out of area.

I have also had a quick look at the Norway fiches for Olaves Andersen, i just need to pick the right one..........Do you have any extra information on Olaves Andersen..who he married and maybe where they lived in Norway. From records of age i can assume that Johan Andersen was born in abt 1848 in Norway so a marriage for Olaves Andersen should be around that time also.

Hope this helps. Chat soon.

Hi Smee,

Thanks for the info. Seems every entry for Johan has a different name for him. Wish they would make their minds up. :2fun:

Johan was a Mariner. I have him down as dying of
Arterial Sclerosis & Senillity.

How can you die of Senillity

I only have the name Olaves Andersen for his father don't know anything else about him. He was supposed to have a brother Otto as well but I don't have anything on him either.

What are these micro Fiche you have access to? I wonder if our library have them as well? Might give them a call.

Hi Peta

I found a record for a Mariner for Johan Andersen for 1881, which like you said can't be right because of the sons born later in the 1880's

There are fiche for Norway and various other countries in the local library, i did find a few Olaves, however the ne i picked out won't be the correct one as the marriage was to late for Johans birth...he must of been born in 1848, maybe if we can find his death record then we could find out where he was born, and hopefully it doesn't just say...NORWAY..........lol.

Well have another look either tomorrow or next week sometime.

Hi Smee,;D

Thanks for that. I would love to find Johan's death. The only note I have came from a sis-in-law who did a project on family for school. I was type written & said he died in 1873 of arterial sclerosis & senillity. There was no note as to where the info came from. & I know it can't be right. & sis-in-law can't remember either. It didn't come through her as the typing was different to what was in the project.
Might go grab M.I.Law's print outs. It is an lever arch folder full of print outs from the national archives. A lot of it is about her own side of the family but there is some andersen data as well. It makes my head swim looking at it as some is quite hard to decipher.

Have been through it a couple of times, but I could well have missed something..

Wonder if she will let me pilfer it for a while. If I promise to be good with it.
LOL

catch you soon

Hi Peta

Well me not going anywhere today, it is raining buckets of water...........and i am sure Summer is meant to start tomorrow................big sigh......

I will try and see what i can find and get back to you again........oh waht a yucky day. Johan is really been a bit elusive isn't he, have you ever found his fathers death record?

Have fun pilfering in those details, wish i had something like that.

I have just foudn my father in laws remains........he was cremated and we still couldn't find his urn never mind his date of death etc, this is partly due to him having two families.

Well have a great weekend here is hoping the weather cheers up some.

Hi Smee,:D

Poor you. I love it when it rains.
Have not found Johans Fathers Death yet.

Lucky you found your F.I.Laws remains. What you going to do with them? or are you going to leave them where they are & just make a note for reference?
My parents were cremated but I have no idea what was done with the remains. They were prob scattered as I don't recall anyone having them.:(

MMmmm must ask brother that one.

catch you later

Hi Peta

Apparently his remains were scattered at sea, i rang them today to find out what had happened to them.

I seem to be on a roll at the moment, i have also found my Higham family......which is way cool, once i work out the port they left in the UK then things will be easy. Apparently my other F.I.Ls grandfather was one of 4 sons......so lots of rellies to find for his 80th birthday .........:D:D

Hi Peta

I still can't quite believe how all this has happened, it is  all i really need to do now is get a birth cert of Louis (Lewis) Denny Higham to make sure i have the right family, not that i doubt any of the information. The lady in archives is going to send me a copy of the immigration sheet, so his name might be on there, we shall see.

Now time for me to get back to helping others......before i get to involved with mine.
