I am having great fun at the moment researching the Boer War and the Battle sites in Natal, South Africa. I can assist with regiments that served in the war and where they served and some of the medals that were issued. Soldiers that died in the war are much easier to trace than those that survived but if you have any queries I will try my best to assit. I know from experience that it is so difficult to get information if you are in another country and do not have access to records. Please dont expect miracles - butr i promise every effort will be given. Regrds Izabel

hey julie thanks again for your time will check out both of those sites, cheers.the 1901 census has been bugging me for so long and when i found this site today i thought thank god someone else could take a look and try and work it.
thanks xxx

That was a quick reply,

Tried the 1871 census and 1881 for William nothing for Warrington so maybe if you have any luck with military records then you will probaly get his dob and possibily his parents names and also a description of what he looked like I did with my gt grandsfathers.

So let the forum know how you got on.

Julie

i do have his obituary that was put in the warringotn guardian,it does state that he had a brother and 2 sisters from staffordshire so maybe that is were he originated from but i have only access to the 1881 has i cannnot afford to subscirbe to anything just yet so at the moment i am going through trial and error process, its just that this side of the family intrigues me more probably because i have not the infomation i need on it i really appriciate all your help julie xxx

thanks for that but i dont think it is him,all i know he was awarded many medals,he was gased in france and served in salonika until 1919.but i know for definate he was in the 8th kings liverpool regiment.i think he was a warrant officer or something like that thanks.

The men from the uk who came out to fight the boer war may not have ended up in their original units. I have found scootish troops in with the south arfican mounted infantry. Members were also seconded to other regiments to make up numbers. The only way to check is to get a copy of the military record from kew

hi there izabel when they are changing ranks and so forth does there rank number change or do they keep the same number from the day they started because i have his sons rank number is there any chance you could get any infomation from that if i give you his sons number xxx

I think I found his service records forgot that ancestry have now updated their pensions and the 1st one I looked at seems to be him and he married a Annie Wilson at Halifax Nova Scotia.

Quite excited.

It may be worthwhile for you to view these on Ancestry even though its pay per view and i will save to my pc.
