I am having great fun at the moment researching the Boer War and the Battle sites in Natal, South Africa. I can assist with regiments that served in the war and where they served and some of the medals that were issued. Soldiers that died in the war are much easier to trace than those that survived but if you have any queries I will try my best to assit. I know from experience that it is so difficult to get information if you are in another country and do not have access to records. Please dont expect miracles - butr i promise every effort will be given. Regrds Izabel

13632 Pte Featherstone C G, Imperial Yeomanry died 1900 South Africa

I will have to check where and of what but you should be able to access the military records at National Archives Uk for his military history. Also check for war memorials in the area he came from

That was a quick reply,

Tried the 1871 census and 1881 for William nothing for Warrington so maybe if you have any luck with military records then you will probaly get his dob and possibily his parents names and also a description of what he looked like I did with my gt grandsfathers.

So let the forum know how you got on.

The men from the uk who came out to fight the boer war may not have ended up in their original units. I have found scootish troops in with the south arfican mounted infantry. Members were also seconded to other regiments to make up numbers. The only way to check is to get a copy of the military record from kew

I think I found his service records forgot that ancestry have now updated their pensions and the 1st one I looked at seems to be him and he married a Annie Wilson at Halifax Nova Scotia.

Quite excited.

It may be worthwhile for you to view these on Ancestry even though its pay per view and i will save to my pc.
