Hi there. I am still trying to trace info about my grandfather, Herbert James TAYLOR and the possibility of him being a BW Vet. He was born in NSW Australia 28/8/1873. The history society in the district he lived in at the time gave me there only known BW Vet, Trooper James Taylor who enlisted in South Africa and served with the NATAL CARBINEERS. I read somewhere that a lot of the paperwork from the Anglo-Boer War was pulped to make paper. Does anyone have a comment for me. My grandfathers 1955 obituary stated that he was a BW Vet. None of the older family members know anything. Cheers. Kerry.

Hi Kerry

I have had a look in the Natal Carbineers records and could not find a record of your Taylor. Are you sure it was not the Bushveld Carbineers - who were mostly from Aussies

Hello Izabel. Not sure exactly how to use this site yet, hope this gets to you. I have contacted Aust War Memorial & National Archives. They have no info for me. They originally gave us info for a headstone, but it was the wrong name (Herbert James Cox Taylor). I was toddler when he died. My dad died in 2006 and he said he thought Herbs medal was stolen. It is so hard to follow up. My uncle said the sub RSL would have only attended his funeral out of courtesy, they did not recognise the Boer War. Herbert was married on 16th April 1900 in Oz so if he was there it would have been before that or after. He had a son born sometime in 1901. Anyway Izabel I will keep plodding along. I will look into the Bushveld Carbineers though. Thanks. Kerry.
