Hi all,

I have two young women, who arrived in 1841 on the 'Argyle'. Is there a way to trace them?

They were Ellen HANNAN aged abt 17yrs and Mary/Margaret HANNING aged abt 24yrs. They were from Tipperary.
I'm almost positive they were sisters. Margaret married in 1854 and the surname registered was HANNAN.

I can't see either on the Assisted (Bounty) Immigrants, 1828-42 Index so is that vessel actually a Bounty one? Seems to be so some names are missing. That's the FS database of the original images with date of birthday and age as of year of arrival and details of parents, etc...

Yes they are on the NSW Records on-line index and image.

Possible NSW death indexes for William and Michael. Maybe Ellen on the passenger list was named after their mother. I cant find her death as yet and still cant connect them to your Margaret.

10506/1878 HANNON MICHAEL MATTHEW ELLEN WOLLONGONG
6102/1884 HANNON MICHAEL AGE 70 YEARS DIED ALBURY ALBURY

2716/1880 HANNON WILLIAM AGE 51 YEARS DIED SYDNEY SYDNEY
4753/1858 HANNON WILLIAM ELLEN PARRAMATTA

Gail do you have the marriage certificate for Margaret and Edward Oldfield?

It might have her age on it which might help confirm the Margaret on the ship was yours. It could also have her parents names on the cert as well.
Witnesses could also be family.

Thanks for the find :)
I'm presuming that Ellen and Mary/Margaret were sisters.
Yes I have the marriage certificate, but it doesn't provide any information.
One of those basic certificates:
Name - Edward OFYILD (OFIELD)
Member - Protestant Church
Abode- Tambaroora

Name - Margaret HANNING
Member - Catholic Church
Abode - Tambaroora

When - 29 April 1854
Where - Tambaroora
Minister - Frs T.M.J Kurns - Minister of Sofala.

Witnesses - James Holmes
Michael Cassidy.

Because it was the goldfields, they probably didn't know the witnesses well.
A member of the Freebody Association is sending me some files, so hopefully that will help me.
I won't send for the death cert of a Margaret Oldfield who died in Newington, until I get the files. Seems only one feasible.
