Hi I do not know if anyone can help on the marriage front I have two brick walls and this is no 1
the facts as I know them -

Isabella Beattie born 1830 Bamburgh district Nbl. 1851 single. On 1861 census married living with husband Henry Fenwick b. Morpeth Nbl about 1831, her parents, 4 children the oldest Isabella Ann 6yrs so I have looked everywhere for a marriage cert from 1851to 1873 when she died, there is a marriage 1853 in Belford district of a James Martin and an Isabella Beattie, but this is not the one, someone did suggest it may be an irregular marriage, but someone was kind enough to check it out - to no avail. On her death cert it states wife of Henry Fenwick, and when he remarried in 1875 he was on the cert as a widower - so I am clueless, did they marry? or just live together as common law man and wife, could they have nipped over the border and married? or is it one of those missing marriages? I would be very grateful if anyone could offer any advice on where to go next :(

Hi there jojo many thanks for your reply and interest. It is really an enigma, I have looked everyehere for a marriage but cannot find one. On the 1851 census she is single and on the 1861 & 1871 married, her first child was born1854. I found a marriage for an Isabella Beattie in Belford Nbl in 1853, and sent offf for the cert, the males names were wrong - but I thought maybe she had been married before Henry, however her fathers name and occupation were also wrong unfortunately. It has been suggested to me that perhaps it was an irregular marriage. and someone kindly checked border marriages [I think they were Lamberton toll marriages] in the Berwick newspaper, but alas nothing! I had no problem finding a cert for his 2nd marriage in 1875. On Isabella's death cert it states - wife of Henry Fenwick, and he is recorded as a widower on his 2nd marriage, it would be nice to put these people to rest -so to speak :)
