welcome I have a birth cert for a George Frederick Maskelyne b 14 1 1904 Swindon Wilts,mother Elizabeth Maskelyne,no father on cert.Stories in the family,say Elizabeth had abt 10 children,before she married,this could be true as i have found 4 children so far.Elizabeth was b 1879 Swindon Wilts d 1949 Swindon Wilts

The marriage for Elizabeth is to a George James Higgins in 1911 Swindon wilts,
The only parents i can find for elizabeth,are William Maskelyne Maslin b abt 1845 Marlborough Wilts & Emma Henley b abt 1854 Wootton Bassett Wilts.i found them on the IGI,and this is the brick wall as i cant get back any further.

I welcome any help.

John Maskelyne Head M. 30 Marlborough Groom

Emily " Wife F 28 Preshute. Groom's wife

Louisa " Dau F 9 Clure.

Bessie " " F 7 Marlborough

Emily " " F 5 "

George " Son M 4 "

Sarah " Dau F 2 Preshute

The were living at In the Dean, Preshute, Wiltshire
Ref. RG11 Folio 2038/75 Page 35

Hi,
Free BMD has the following marriage entries

William Maslin Mar 1876 Highworth vol 5a page 12
Emma Henley Mar 1876 Highworth vol 5a page 12

If you get the certificate it should give you the father's names and occupations, which will be a starting point for going back further

I totally forgot to mention that Wiltshire Family History Society has a fantastic selection of records. They are very pro-active. If you google it that will give you the address. Most FHS cost between £10-12 pounds a year and is well worth the money

Hi Drew...being from Swindon like yourself ide just like to say that the Evening Advertiser has records dating back to 1850ish...ive looked at them and they are housed in the reference library...particularly good for looking at BMDs.and obituarys..good luck with your search and regards..Lee
