Hi, I am looking for Ernest Bridgeman, born around 1900. Lived in Brighouse, Yorkshire in 1918. Cannot find any Bridgemans in Yorkshire on the 1901 census. What do I do now?
Assuming that Ernest married his marriage certificate will give fathers name and occupation and Ernests age plus address, also the witnessess could be a clue. Once you have this the next step will be to trace his birth.
Thanks for the replies- Ernest Bridgeman was my mother's father although he never married her mother. I assume he will have married at some point later on but have no idea when or where. Do I just search BMD's - Where would I start when I don't have a date?
If he died from the June Quarter of 1969 onwards then a date of birth should be listed in the indexes, but on occasions they are not always accurate. Saying that, the month and day is usually correct if not the year.
