It's impossible to look at these families without it getting complicated.

One or two more Giles depending if you think one was baptised at age 28. This one born abt 1796. Possibly the son of Giles & Betty BRITTON m. 1782 or a young Thomas & very young Dinah BRITTON:

Thomas Wilmot
England, Marriages, 1538–1973
marriage 1 Nov 1807 St Philip And St Jacob, Bristol, Gloucester
spouse Dinah Britton

Giles Wilmot
England, Births and Christenings, 1538-1975
christening 31 Jan 1808 Bitton, Gloucester
residence Bristol, Gloucester, England
parent Thomas Wilmot, Dinah

I realise the birth is possibly before the marriage. I just wish the baptism records had the age.

1841
Civil Parish: Bitton
Address
Giles Wimot age 45 coal m
Hannah Wilmot age 40
Thomas Wilmott age 15
Giules Wilmott age 10
Ann Wilmott age 12
Geo Wilmott age 10
John Wilmott age 8
Elizth Wilmott age 6
Hester Wilmott age 3

1851
HO107 Piece 1944 Folio 374 Page 5
Civil Parish: Bitton
Address: 'Philwood'
Giles Wilmot head age 56 occ coalminer born Bitton
Hannah wife age 54 born Bitton
John son age 17 occ coalminer born Bitton
Elizabeth dau age 15 born Bitton

1861
RG9 Piece 1700 Folio 41 Page 5
Civil Parish: Bitton and Oldland
Address: 'Pig Lane'
Giles Wilmot head age 64 occ coalminer born Bitton
Hannah wife age 64 born Bitton

Deaths Jun 1863
Wilmot Giles Keynsham 5c 550

Yes, that might list his parents.

and this one:

Giles son of Thomas WILMOTT & Mary BUTLER
Baptised 28 Feb 1770 St. Mary's, Bitton, Gloucester
Age 1 ?

Parents married in 1769 ? I can't find that one.

Thomas is said to have remarried soon after but again there is a problem with the year:

Thomas Willmot
England, Marriages, 1538–1973
marriage 07 Jun 1773 Bitton, Gloucester
spouse Susanna Peacock
Thomas Willmot
England, Marriages, 1538–1973
marriage 07 Jun 1772 Bitton, Gloucester
spouse Susanna Peacock

I think the 1772 is correct. A son Samuel from the 2nd marriage.

Samuel Willmott
England, Births and Christenings, 1538-1975
christening 27 Jun 1773 Bitton, Gloucester
residence Bristol, Gloucester, England
parent Thomas Willmott, Susanna

Can I be of any help by looking in the Churchyard at Bitton,as I do not live that far from there. Can't promise when it will be, but if there is anything that might help I will.
I have a friend who is a Wilmott by marriage who comes from this area, & also a friend Caines by marriage also. I don't think they are into Family History though:confused:

Hello ladybird,

Thank you very much for offering. I will have a look and see if I can find any in my tree who are likely to be buried there. I know I have some at St George Hanham Abbots.

These families are so difficult to trace because many were born before parents married and many had late baptisms, most with no age recorded.

Regards,

Dave

The problem with Thomas & Dinah BRITTON being the parents of Giles b. abt 1796 is that several trees show Thomas b. 1782 and Dinah b. 1785.

Is the Giles, son of Thomas & Dinah and baptised 1808 the same one who married Hannah BRYANT and in the census I posted?

There are the following WILMOTT burials in Bitton in 1800:

Giles 9 Oct
Giles 19 Oct
Mary 28 Oct

Is that Giles who married Betty BRITTON and two of their children?

Baptised 17 Sep 1815 at Kingswood - children of Benjamin CAINS & Ann

Joseph aged 12
Samuel aged 15
Sarah aged 17

So it's possible Thomas WILMOTT was baptised at age 20.

Some religions require baptism before marriage, that may account for any late baptisms.

A bap. for the melting pot..

Name: Thomas Wilmott
Gender: Male
Christening Date: 11 Apr 1784
Christening Place: Abson, Gloucestershire, England
Father's Name: Charles Wilmott
Mother's Name: Elizabeth

Haven't found his birth yet..

Ann WILMOT c. 5 Sep 1802 Hanham, Bitton
Age 9 years
Daughter of Giles & Betty

Several trees have no marriage and no death for Ann or Hannah in some trees. I can't see an alternative to this proving Ann is the one who married Daniel PEACOCK:

1841 Death in the Registration District of Keynsham - Sub-district of Oldland in the County of Gloucester
#157 - First of February 1841 at Mount Hill Hamlet of Oldland - Betty Willmott - Female - 88 years - Widow of Giles Willmott Coal Miner - Gradual Decay - The Mark X of Ann Peacock Present at Death Warmley Hill Hamlet of Oldland - Fifth of February 1841 - Hy Mills Grace Registrar

I wonder if we can find a connection between PEACOCKs Susanna and Daniel.

Didn't find anything the PR's that I have, but none did cover the area :(

This may be interesting but time consuming, from Thomas b. abt. 1882/3 and married Anna Maria or Maria:

Transcriber's Notes
Thomas WILMOT married Maria DICKSON 2.12.1812 St. James Bristol by banns. Both made their mark

1841 census
Thomas WILLMOTT age 53 farmer born Wick & Abson
Maria WILLMOTT wife age 40 born Somerset.
Isabella twin age 18 born Bitton?
Matilda twin age 18 later married a Mr. Austen
Elizabeth age 12 later married a Mr. Treehorne
George age 9 born Wick & Abson
Susanna age 6

Other children
James
Sarah married a ? Pearce
Mary married a ? Hales. She had a son Edwin Willmott (Hales?)
Ann bap.5.6.1814 Oldland married a Mr. Woodington. She died before 1863.
John bap. 25.8.1822 Oldland.

This is the link, other wills there too > http://www.bittonfamilies.com/willwilmottthomas.html

Geoff

Edit: forgot to mention maybe some crossed wires in that..

Thanks Geoff.

I keep returning to that site in the hope more is added to the database.

Daniel's parents were Isaac b. abt 1766 & Hannah JONES.

Trees have Susanna's father as Abraham but I can't verify that. The same trees show the 1772 marriage to Thomas WILMOTT. They have Susanna b. 1751 and Thomas b. 1750 and no first marriage to Mary BUTLER. Some proof it's the same Thomas would be the death/burial of Mary between 1769 and 1772 but none found. Just a clue Mary died because there were no more baptisms found for children.

Just found a tree..

Ann Wilmott b. abt. 1789 Oldland, m. Daniel Peacock 1820, Bitton.

May be worth following up.. Re post #2, taking step-by-step in view of this family :)

Geoff

Apparently the mar. can be found here: Bristol & Avon FHS Vol. 8 Index of marriages 1813 - 1837.

I wonder if we can find a connection between PEACOCKs Susanna and Daniel.
It seems the next logical step..

I can't get further back than:
Aaron Peacock b. abt. 1743 (d. 1821 Bitton), m. Ann Cook, 1763 Bitton.

Or find Susan/Susanna's parents, as you say there is an odd tree with Abraham as her father, nothing on FS so far either.

Perhaps this long-shot maybe part of the family
England & Wales Christening Records, 1530-1906
Name: Francis Peacock
Gender: Male
Christening Date: 3 Apr 1749
Christening Place: Bristol, Gloucestershire, England
