My wife's former husband had two uncles who went to Australia and worked on the above. Is there any information as to who worked on it, where they lived. My wife actually met one of them who returned to the UK for a visit. Their surname was Dingle.
It's just a matter of curiosity really.
Many thanks to you all.

Bore Da, boyo,

One brother was called Jack, my wife remembers he married a Mormon from when they visited. The other brother apparently after finishing their work went 'walkabout' for about 20 years before he got back in touch with Jack.

Thanks, merci, danke, shukran & diolch!

Marriages end abt 1920 or 1940 or 1965 depending on which State.

Electoral Rolls on-line end at 1980.

Deaths from BDM end abt 1985. If within the last 7 years notices might be found in newspapers.

Railways built in the last 50 years in NW Western Australia for iron ore, western NSW and central Queensland for coal.

A very difficult task to find them.

Yes, it's a good candidate for mission impossible, but I'm told that Jack Dingle and his brother emigrated to Australia before WWI - could be to avoid being conscripted into the Army is one thought - and came from Hale in Cornwall.
Jack's wife could have been called Alice.

To have worked on building the railroads in Australia would have required fitness and stamina and the ability to look after ones-self, certainly not a job for the faint-hearted.

Any middle names for Jack?

One marriage in NSW stands out but no idea if the right one

13987/1922 DINGLE JOHN H G - DAVIS ALICE R - REDFERN

Can't see any marriage notice in the newspaper.

DINGLE John Helson Gillis Death notice 12JUN1939 Death 57 at Wollongong Sydney Morning Herald 13JUN1939

Ruled out by this NSW birth:

8713/1882 DINGLE JOHN H G - EDWARD HELSON - MARY ANN - WATERLOO

Arrived in Australia just before WWI.

Any more details that may help?

Rough date for return to England?

Rough date for last contact?

Any idea when and where they died?

Not this one ??
John Francis Dingle (1895 - 1970)
Born on 24 June 1895
Passed away on 28 August 1970
Aged 75 years
Albany Creek Memorial Park

The Rookwood Crematorium is run by a different Trust to the Cemetery. You have to rely on 'HeavenAddress' for any possible memorials.

The SMH on-line Archive ends at Feb 1995.
