Mr. John Bowden Burtinshaw died at his residence, 57 McKenzie Street, Lismore, on Friday, on his 83rd birthday. The late Mr. Burtinshaw was born at Preston, England, in 1861 and soon after coming to Australia in 1889 joined the staff of the Post and Telegraph Department, in which he served until he retired in May, 1926. At the time of retirement he held the position of Inspector in the Engineer's Branch. He is survived by four sons and three daughters, Messrs. William S. Burtinshaw (Sydney), Stanley Burtinshaw (Young). John E. Burtinshaw (Youg), George B. Burtinshaw (Sydney), and Mrs. Dr. Stephens (Sydney), Mrs. Dr. Carl Furner (Newcastle) and Miss Bena Burtinshaw (Young). Mr. Burtinshaw's wife predeceased him 30 years ago. Mr. Burtinshaw was buried in the North Lismore cemetery after a service in St. Andrew's Church of England, conducted by the Rev. R. L. Sanders. The pall-bearers were Messrs. J. Harder, J. W. Irvine, E. Venn, E. C. Rankin, W. J. Gray and T. P. Winterton. The funeral arrangements werer carried out by Will Riley and Son. – Buried C of E portion of the North Lismore Cemetery.

The death is reported from Sydney of Mrs. Burtinshaw (nee Miss Elizabeth Cottee, daughter of the late Spencer Cottee), and sister of Mr. S. M. Cottee, of Lismore. Deceased was the wife of Mr. John Burtinshaw, line inspector of The Telegraph Department, and had been ailing since before Christmas from an affection of the heart. Deceased was an old resident of the Richmond, and died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Stephens, wife of Dr. Stephens, of Rose Bay, Sydney. In addition to a husband, she leaves a family of four sons and three daughters.
