Hi everybody,
I hope someone will be able to advise me on how to find the birth record of my 3 x great-grandmother, Catherine (née McCarthy ) Hurley.
UK censes of 1871 and 1881 say she was born in Halifax, North America. On her marriage certificate of 1852, in England, it shows her father's name as John McCarthy and that he was deceased.
I can't find definitive proof of them having lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia....nothing concrete, that is....and none of the earlier UK censes show her being in England even the year before her marriage...UK census of 1851.
How do I find her birth and family records ?
Thanks so much for any advice or help you can give me.

Hi, Can you tell me the name of Catherine's husband and their children. Think you may need to find more about her in this country before you search for her in Canada. I see she has a sister Mary McCarty with her in 1871 who also said born America so that may be a clue. Where is she in 1861? What was the occupation of her father?
