She died 1966 aged 61. I cant find her birth cert anywhere. I think she was born under different name? How do i find her then??
Her father named on birth cert was william wynn actor deceased. Could she have made this up as she was illigitimate? I am really stuck and dont know what to do now........please any ideas???

Hi Emma :)
What a pickle!! Have you got copies (or the original copies) of your ggrandmothers birth and death certificates? You could always get copies from the Family Records Centre in London. You know that she married your ggrandfather in London but this doesn't necessarily mean that she was born in London. Did your ggrandmother have any children? Are they still alive? If they are, and you are able to speak to them, they could give you some clues. What makes you think she was born under a different name? That really throws a spanner in the works!! Unless you have an idea what surname she or her mother had at the time of her birth. Do you think that her mother wasn't necessarily married to the actor in question? The first thing to do is to get a copy of your ggrandmothers birth dertificate. That would detail her mother and father and the area she was born in. Although some next of kin should be on the marriage cert you have (if you have one). You could check the census (1901, I think), she should show up on this aged accordingly. If you get any more info, give me a shout, and I'll see if I can help you any further.

Hi (again) Emma,

Have just been on the 1901 Census of England and Wales online and I have bit more info for you. I can only find one Winifred Wynn of the right age in the 1901 census. She was 5 years old which would be right depending on when the census was taken and when your ggrandmothers birthday was. She was born in Barnsbury, Wood Green, North London. The site gives you the option of seeing the other occupants of the house, which may give you her mother, possibly father or stepfather and maybe siblings. Unfortunately, it is pay per view and I don't subscribe. So unless you can subscribe or can find someone who does, that's as far as that route goes. But hopefully, that's given you some more info to enale you to find your ggrandmothers ancestors!! 8)

Thankyou so much for that. Fingers crossed its her!

Winifred only had one child my gran, sadly she passed away last year. She knew very little of her mother as apparently she was a strange lady who was very private. I do not know of any other relatives at all, so bit stumped!!

Thanks again i will let you know what i find, i dont subscribe to that site but think i know someone who does!!

Hi Emma ;D
Glad to be have been of some assistance. If you are able to look at the 1901 census and are able to get the names of the other occupants of the house, post them here and I'll be glad to help you research some more. Do you know your grandmothers first name (Winifred's child)? You could then try to find her birth certificate. I assume she was born sometime shortly after your ggrandparents marriage. I know this may seem like working backwards (or forwards, if you see what I mean), but it does help as you may find info pertaining to your ggreatparents on documents for your grandmother.

look forward to hearing from you

In Scotland you can access birth records online on a website called Scotland's People. It is run by the National Register for Scotland. i am assuming that England should have the same facility. I access my Great Grandmother's birth record online (she was born 1886) and it detailed mother and fathers names and date of marriage. You can then access the marriage records and then the birth records of both parents.

I have a problem because my great great grandparents were not married!
