Yes an interesting and sobering website. I have read 2 biographies by hangmen and both were glad that hanging was abolished. One because he felt that it was purely the public's thirst for revenge not justice and the other because he felt the reprieve system meant that the decision was in one man's hands and subject to bias, but in any case he was worried that innocent people were being hanged.

I also learnt that women who killed their husbands used to be burnt at the stake.
