Family legend has it James captained a ship to Melbourne. Crew deserted for gold rush and he was left to sort it out and stayed. I can't find any records for him from 1854 to 1863 but he obviously arrived in Melbourne and arranged for the family to follow him out.
Any suggestions as to how to find him much appreciated.
