hi folks,
i am a bit stumped with this one

I am trying to find out as much as possible about an old soldier
born around 1861 in slough berks, Harry Sargeant (defo harry as on birth cert)
served in ww1 as a captain with the leicestershire regiment and as a major in the labour corps.
Unfortunatly i have only been able to find a medal card which match's rank and regiments but it doesnt have any service numbers on it.

any help would be grately appriciated

Since he has a rank there is an officers list I know. You could try his regiments archives. Also look up local papers for articles.

Hi there Andy, Officers don't have a service number. Regiment numbers were for lower ranks only. unless they started in the lower ranks first.
Officers have dates when they are Commissioned.
does that help
