Hello Sue,

Thank you very much.

John Kimber CAREY c. 20 Oct 1811 Lambourn, Berkshire

Lambourn and East Garston are both in RD Hungerford not Wantage.

James died in Australia in 1906 aged 64 - I don't have his parents from the death reg.

This fits for age but not place of birth.

Births Mar 1841
CAREY James Wantage 6 265
Carey James Wantage 6 268

This one is interesting. Possibly Kimber. The right place but not the right age.

Births Dec 1847
CAREY James John _inber Hungerford 6 192

I wonder if there are two families - John Kimber & Mary and John & Anne.

I need to find out if the death reg. actually lists the parents. I may have started this topic with the wrong marriage.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Sue,

Well now. Looks as though the parents are the correct ones and that they left in 1841.

He died aged 64 at 11 George St. Ballarat East, on 12 January 1906. His death certificate (no. 276) lists him as a miner. The informant was his son William of Ballarat East. It is stated that he was born in Berkshire, England and had been 63 years in Victoria. He was married in Ballarat at the age of 23 years to Alice Gribble. 10 children are listed on the certificate. He is buried in the New Cemetery, Ballarat, burial date 14th Jan 1906.
So how can there be a birth in 1847 with middle name Kimber ???

Regards,

Dave
