Thanks for looking in the 1851 census: I am trying to sort out whether the Roger in 1863 , "mariner," of Kingswear, is the same Roger as you have located in the 1841 census, or a different one. I rather think he is one and the same. In 1861 he was aboard ship; and he is in the 1881 census with wife Jane and stepchildren.

Do you have access to the 1871 census?

Roger isnt showing on the 1871 census though have not tried variants of the surname, he could be away at sea.

You say that you have him in 1881 with wife Jane, the only one showing is with wife Sophia living in the civil parish of West Ham and also with them are 3 Suffield step sons. Rogers occ is storekeeper at E & W I (East and West Indiai) Docks.

In 1891 there is a Roger Pomeroy born abt 1885 West Ham pupil in the civil parish of the United Parishes of St James and St Paul, Gloucestershire.

I see the info about Roger Pomeroy of Kingswear is at the National Archives, did notice the place Totnes as there is a death for a Mary Lyde Pomeroy year 1839 district Totnes.

Thank you for the death date of Mary Lyde Pomeroy in Totnes. Shall have to retrace my steps on the 1881 Census because I can't seem to find my notes. Am such a rank beginner.

Roger Pomeroy age 40, St James, Middlesex, Storekeeper, with his wife Sophia age 32; stepsons and John Tull Boarder.

This Roger Pomeroy is with Thomas George Suffield in 1901 he is down as stepbrother. For some reason Roger isnt showing up on the indexing for 1901. Could he be the son of Roger and Sophia and is he the same as in 1891.

Yes. This Roger Pomeroy, age 16, who is with Thomas George Suffield in 1901 is certainly the son of Roger and Sophia.
