Hi Julie,
Thats a good deal of detective work thank you. Sorry to say that I think we are looking at the wrong person.
For instance, in the 1871 census you say her son is William from Tamworth, aged 2yrs, but her sons name should be Alexander from Warwick.
In the 1881 census Marianne is living with Elizabeth CHARLES (head) and her relationship is daughter! The only way I can think that she is a daughter is for Marianne to be born about 1840 and her name would be Marianne CHARLES. Again in the 1881 census, her son is listed as Alexander aged 12 born Kettlebrook, Warwick and that relationship to Elizabeth CHARLES is grandson,
After thinking about this situation, I wonder if the census data for 1881 is incorrect and should actually read
Mary Ann CHALMERS aged 40, Born Dale Farm, Staffs
From what is said and what is heard by the census officer this could make sense?
The name Payne doesn't fit since "Marianne" CHARLES would have to marry a CHALMERS.
Or am I missing something?
Perhaps you could search for Alexander CHALMERS aged 2yrs, Kettlebrook, Warwick.
Cheers
