Hi Friends

I hope some one can help me, In 1868 a,m,j,vol 4a,pg 457 at Dunmow Essex GEORGE CHAPMAN born 1846 married JANE CHAPMAN (maiden name) born 1847

GEORGE was the son of WILLIAM CHAPMAN  b1816 and MARIA b 1817 at Stebbing, Essex, Jane was the daughter of WILLIAM CHAPMAN born:confused: 1815 and MERICKS CHAPMAN born 1816,

George is shown in the census of Finchingfield Essex in 1851 with siblings Elizabeth b 1840, Mary Anne b1842, Sarah b 1844 and William 1849

Jane is shown in the same census of Finchingfield Essex with her siblings Charles b 1834, Henry b 1837, Eliza b 1842,and Thomas b 1844,

I would like to Know who the parents of the two Williams are and the maiden names of their respective wives.

Thankyou

Gwen

Hi Gwen,
I'll see what I can find. I would think that William and William would possibly be cousins, so Jane and George would be 2nd cousins.
Do both Williams show in the 1841 census.

Hi Steve,

This one seams a complicated one, pg 1 Chapman family I think is William and Maria mis transcribed as Mericks? but on the second part of age 2 a William 31 and mary 28 are living with Thomas 60 and Sarah Chapman 58 also are Charles and Henry Maybe Willliam had his age wrong and these are his parents?

Hi Gwen,
I'm not sure of the landscape in Essex.
Do you recognise the Farms/roads/lanes/areas etc. that the families live in from the census.
It seems that one set of Chapmans live at one end, and another set at the other end of this community.
If you can picture in your mind the first entry in the census, and 'walk' your way through the census in your mind, as though you are walking 'down the road' so to speak.
I've done this and it does work, but only if you are familiar with the area.
As you know most local families stick together.
Am I making any sense.:D
