John had died. That's curious - the date is after 1823 but I can't find his death on Tas Archives site.

May 17, 1827 (Age 70)
New Norfolk, Van Diemens Land

MCDUALL, Lydia. Daughter of John McDuall, deceased
1823 Mar 11 Affidavits re her marriage to George Erskine, missionary, of Windsor (Reel 6028; 2/8305A p.1)

If John died in VDL it was not 1827. Perhaps he died in NSW. Not in NSW index.

Just found this public member's story...

Quote 1800 to 1801 -

"On the 31st May 1800, Mary Skinner, aged 24, was arrested and charged with shop lifting. After spending 10 months in Bristol's Newgate prison, she was tried & convicted on the 6th April 1801, of "privately stealing in the shop of Miss H. Townsend, above the value of 5 shillings", and sentenced to death. This sentence was commuted to transportation for life. Samuel was also tried, for receiving stolen goods from Mary Skinner. Samuel was acquitted, however he accompanied his wife who was transported on the convict ship "Nile" departing from Spithead England on the 27th May 1801, arriving in Sydney Cove on the 14th December 1801."
