Something to ponder..

Bendigo Advertiser Friday 16 March 1877

" Emma Cattran
sued her husband for maintenance. The com
plainant is a wall-known character, pestessing
an insatiable passion for drink; to satisfy which
she pawns everything in her husband's house,
even including her children's clothing and the
window blinds. The defendant had to turn her
out of the house because of her shocking drunken
habits. Mr. Orme administered a severe lec
ture to the woman, and said ho would allow her
no more than Ss. per week, and made an order
accordingly upon her husband."
