Hi Steve
yes I do have access to ancestry .co.uk , and I did find Charles in the census records but I can't find any clue as to when he was born that's the my main interest at the moment.
Any help with that would be great
Chris

c1793, Stowe, Gloucestershire = Stow-on-the Wold.

He may have been born there, but not baptised there. Not sure what web site covers Gloucestershire.

It is also possible he could have been baptised in Oxfordshire, as Stow is close to the Oxfordshire county line.

And of course, the surname variations are many, as said before.

Thank you Steve
that's interesting , going by the 1841 census he was born in 1796 but I will take a closer look at ancestry .co.uk later. the earliest date I have on my tree is1551 and the name down as Gooddwyn. I know that there were variations in the spelling of the surnames and it is possible that he married more than once
regards
Chris

Ages in Census are often rounded up by 5 years or so, especially the 1841 census. As the later census seem to be more accurate, but ages maybe guesswork by whoever gives the information. It cannot be accurately relied on.

Original burial image is on Ancestry...........!

Name: Charles Gadwin
Age: 84
Birth Year: abt 1792
Burial Date: 8 May 1876
Burial Place: Swinbrook, Oxfordshire, England
Parish - Swinbrook.

Name: Charles Godwin
Birth year: abt 1793
Year: 1877
Quarter: Apr-May-Jun
Age at Death: 84
Reg district: Witney
County: Oxfordshire
Volume: 3a

As you haven't come back to verify or comment on what I've found, I can assume that you have solved this man, Charles Gooddwin/Godwin/Gadwin.

i work shifts driving a bus and haven't had a chance to do anything for a while but the information is very interesting and i am hopeful that it wil help me find the solution to the puzzle
