Im trying to locate my great grandmothers missing older 1/2 brother Charles Henry Harton.

Born 1870 Tarnagulla victoria (spelt as Horton on bdm vic)

Dad: Benjamin Harton
Mum: Eliza Lewis

Think he might have travelled to WA & NSW as either crew or a passenger

Mr Charles Henry Olsen, 64, who died at Angaston on Friday after several days in hospital here, was not alone in his last hours, nor laid to rest without friends, although the fates had been against him and no relatives could be located. Mr E. T. Odgers and Mr P. R. Graetz made arrangements for the funeral on Saturday, and they were bearers with Messrs H. Doddridge and W. Stanitzke (the sexton). Rev. G. H. Bottrill conducted the service before this little gathering. Mr Olsen was born at Bendigo, Vic., and came here from Bundaleer early this year, living quietly by himself in a little shack on the Council property. His wife died many years ago, and there was no family; but a sister is believed to be living in Victoria. Mr Olsen had been a musician in his earlier years and participated in early band contests at Ballarat.

I know his surname was Harton but maybe he took the Olsen name since he would have been only a little fella when Olsen come on the scene.

I cant find a birth in VIC for the above fella.

I've been looking for something to help confirm its him but cant find anything.

Yeah, South Australia records online are not good... no E/R's to speak of.. There are a few between late 1930' and early 1940's, but there was another Charles Henry b. c1916 and looks to be living in Port Pirie, I don't have full access.

That said, the press cutting said Bundaleer, which is only 20-30km E of Port Pirie, something to ponder

Hi Geoff,

Step father's name was John Olson. Eliza married under the name Clark as thats her previous married name as she never married Benjamin Harton.

Im unable to find a marriage under Harton or Olsen/Olson in VIC or SA.

Charles mum eliza married at least 3 times maybe more
Born Eliza Lewis then Clarke, then Harton then olson

A few of the people mentioned in trove appear frequently in documents relating to tarnagulla

Now to track down his wife who according to the trove article died sometime before him & look for any possible kids

According to the article it appears to be no kids. But if we find a marriage we can then check the kid bit out.
I'll have another look at it all tomorrow.

I have checked marriages for VIC and SA but couldnt find anything remotely close. Tho we dont know what name he married under neither.
