Charles married Mary Ann BERRY or Mary Ann WINTER depending which tree you look at.

Mary born about 1846 according to one tree as WINTER and as BERRY with mother's maiden name was WINTER on another tree.

Charles & Mary married - where and when ? Victoria ???

One tree has these details for a son:

Richard Switson COOKE b. 1887 Vic - parents Charles James COOKE & Mary Ann BERRY

If those details are correct then how did he get the middle name Switson ?
Is the registration actually under SWITSON or BERRY with father unknown?

Another son of Mary Ann:

David Arthur SWITSON/BERRY b. 1889 or 1890 Vic. - father unknown

Marriage 1909 Vic. for Richard Charles SWITSON & Mary Ann COOKE ???

They waited until Charles died.

One tree has Mary's death in 1979 but that can't be correct.

Mary Ann died in Victoria after 1890 either as COOKE or SWITSON or as MURRAY. ???

Is Murray an error for Berry?

Richard Charles SWITSON died in 1936 Vic.

One tree says Charles followed a daughter back to England but no date is given so I don't know if he may be in 1891 or just 1901 or neither census.

unless she was born before they married and took her mother's name.

Is he registered as COOKE or SWITSON or BERRY or WINTER?

David Arthur SWITSON/COOKE b. 1889 or 1890 Vic.

I believe he is registered as BERRY with 'father unknown' but also registered under another name probably SWITSON and not COOKE or WINTER.

The 'r' means the original record has been altered. There could even be another reg # with the birth under a different surname or another with 13981 under the name COOKE which is not in the index.
