With the use of birth certificates and a look at some of the records I've got to a Charles Kemp who married Mary Matthews baptised 20 Mar 1796 Rawmarsh in 1821 in Tickhill. I think Charles was a butcher and despite not showing in the 1841 census didn't die till 1848. I can't find his birth in the records I've got for Tickhill. I think his father may be John Kemp. Trouble is they are on the Nottinghamshire border there so he might have been born near Tickhill but in Nottinghamshire. I've searched what records I have online. Someone I can't contact has put Charles Kemp 1796 Doncaster which covers the Tickhill area and some of the Nottinghamshire villages too. Any ideas how I can establish if his father was John Kemp? The parish records of his marriage I read doesn't mention parents, only that there were banns read.

Hi Duckweed
From what I can read into your message, have you seen the original parish records.
I found Tickhill is in Yorkshire but the records are in the deanery of Doncaster.
Baptisms 1542 - 1895
Marriages 1538 - 1910
Burials 1537 - 1901
Also you have the Bishops Transcripts from1718 - 1866 with a couple of years missing.
If you already have this information I apologise, but it is sometimes better to see the originals if you can get to the Record office. These days they tend to close at the weekends which is not very helpful if you are working. I do know how great the Internet is having only used it in the last couple of months for the first time. I hope that this is of some help

Yes I know about Tickhill/Doncaster I looked at the later baptisms when I was there but hadn't time to look further back. He's not on any records online and unfortunately isn't with wife Mary in Tickhill in 1841. I know his occupation was Valet. Other relatives had connections with the Lumleys, the duke of Westmoreland's family sometimes known as Lord Scarborough but don't know if that was who he was valet too. I have found a Charles Kemp in London in a boarding house with a Richard Lumley gentleman but would a Lumley be in a boarding House. Especially whenthe other Lumleys are living in their town house in London at that time headed by Lady Scarborough.
