Also looks like he was Bapts at West Linton. That makes a marriage in that church more probable.

Charles's children were Jean, (who you posted above), Johan(na) who is my ancestor and James. Johanna was transcribed in FS as Jo-hn.
She married James Scott in Canongate, who was transported to Oz in 1815. She died at sea, while travelling with their 3 children

It is good value, and you have issue found that you can check with.
Being in Newland is not to say Charles Lawson was born there.

At that time the population of Scotland was not huge, and the odds of another couple with same names is not in favour. I have only came across it once in 14yrs and it was South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.But!
