Looking particularly for parents and any age details of Charles.

The only baptism I can find is the 1807 one with parents Alexander and Ellen in Soham.

The only marriage which comes up is the one in 1823 to Mary West when Charles born 1807 would have been 16.

The only suitable Soham baptism for Mary West is 4 Aug 1799 parents Edward and Mary (late Barret)

I can't find Charles in any of the Censuses at all but I can find Mary in 1841 and 1851

Possible death for Mary

Mary Rankin age 63 June 1867 Newmarket 3b 338

No death for Charles in Cambridge and no sign of any military records, nor can I see a birth reg or baptism for Frances.

If that is my Charles, no obvious reason why he would marry so young, nothing in the index to show a Rankin or West child 1821-1825, until Ann 1825..

There doesn't seem to be another baptism for a Charles Rankin, only the one in 1807.

Doesn't appear to be a bap in the Soham PR's..

This marriage would fit with that birth reg.

Charles is certainly a bit of a mystery after the early 1830's.. Mary says she is still married in 1851 [age also out], yet, as you say no sign of Charles

Fanny and James Isaacson appear together in the Censuses from 1861 onwards, both giving pob as Soham.

As Charles gives his occupation as Soldier in 1833 when Sarah and Eliza were baptised it is possible that he was overseas for the Censuses. Can't find any military records for him though.

Still can't find any service records for him but the British Army Index has a Charles Rankin, soldier number 1743. in the 14th (The Buckinghamshire) Regiment of Foot serving in Newry in 1841 and in Athlone in 1851.
