charles roberts

HI there,

Could someone please help me find a birth for
Charles Roberts.
All i know about him, is that in 1874 he married an Edith Frances Vass in Hartley, Hampshire and that they had a daughter in 1876 called Elizabeth Jemima Roberts in Alverstoke, Hampshire.
I also know that he was a Corporal in 58th foot regiment.

There are far to many Charles Roberts. If we had where he was born and parents names we may be able to find him on the census.

Hi Julie,

It looks like he was possibly born in 1842 in Bramshaw. In 1871 census there is a charles roberts 29 years as private at Kings Own Royal Regiment. Also as this particular man is not shown in 1881 census, we presume he emigrated to South Africa between 1876 (dtr's birth) and 1881.
On LDS parents are shown as John and Ann Batch I 013757.
Could you perhaps find a baptism for him?

Jackie,

The chap you found in 1871 parents are John and Ann. The entry on LDS matches what you found. His marriage certicate would show his fathers name.
