Can anyone find a marriage in Knaresborough, Yorks between a Charles Smith and an Elizabeth Webster? Their first child Charles was baptised Knaresborough in 1839. I cannot find anything on FreeBMD so I have a feeling that the marriage was possibly in 1837 before Civil Registration started.

Whilst I was searching a marriage came up on familysearch for an Elizabeth Webster 2 April 1837 . It was nonconformist, no image or husband's name. I then went on to look to see if I could find a similar entry for Charles Smith but nothing came up so I went back to look again for the Elizabeth Webster entry and I'm blowed if I can find it again. I can't decide whether I'm slowly going mad or if it is just old age!

Thanks Julie. After much messing around I have managed to find it again. It's a shame that no husband is named as it would fit perfectly. Charles and Elizabeth and first born son, also Charles, appear in the 1841 Census, not born in county. By 1851 father Charles is a widower but five more children have been added to the family. According to the GRO site all have mmn Webster. Charles, the father born 1816 in Harrogate, Charles the son born Knaresborough and all the other children born Precot, Lancashire. This implies the mother was Elizabeth Webster but I just cannot find a marriage.
