Charles Thomas ANDERSON born abt 1845 where? died 1940 NSW

15181/1940 ANDERSON CHARLES THOMAS 95 YRS ROCKDALE ROCKDALE

Marriage 481/1874 ANDERSON CHARLES T SANDS JANE SYDNEY

I can't see any reference to him in the NSW Electoral Rolls when I 'Google'. I think he was either or both a printer at the Note Printing Branch of the Australian Mint and an upholsterer.

Please see if you can find him in any Electoral Roll - NSW or Victoria if he was a printer, and in the Sands Directory.

I only have his marriage and death reg so far.

Thanks.

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much. That solves one puzzle. I had always wondered why Jane would have died in North Sydney when virtually all the close family lived and died in the Rockdale area. Everything fitted except for the location:

Death # 15501/1937 ANDERSON JANE WILLIAM CATHERINE NORTH SYDNEY

Ok, no doubt about the Kogarah one. It's the right location and Amy Ethel is their eldest daughter born in Paddington in 1875. So there is a match there too!

Oh, a hint about Charles' brother Robert G born 1883 Newtown, NSW. The only possible death found for him so far is this one although his middle name may or may not be George:

Death Reg# 33368/1959 ANDERSON ROBERT GEORGE (UNKNOWN UNION STREET) SOUTH 27/11/59 (LISMORE) LISMORE

ANDERSON, ROBERT GEORGE 27-Nov-1959 WILLIAM RILEY'S RECORDS EAST LISMORE ANGLICAN, 9E, 7
(Source:LISMORE City Council Cemetery Records online)

Is that the same Robert?

I didn't know he was living in Toorak in 1915 or that there were any connections there or that Jane might have gone to Victoria.

Charles death reg does not help re his parents so I'm hoping with two children Charles Thomas and Emma who married an ABBOT(T) probably in Victoria we can find their parents.

Please does some fishing.

Thanks.

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Jane does not have a sister Emma so that would make her Charles' sister.

Dave

Hi Dave

It’s a bit hard to confirm whether he is your ANDERSON Robert G b. 1883. Shame it never gave his age at death.
Do you know if he married. There is one marriage in 1919 Newcastle which has been entered in the index five times.
This couple in 1930 are living at Coogee, in 1936 Bellevue Hill.

Forgot to mention the other day this family living in Farr St, Rockdale in 1903.
Perhaps Arthur is a brother Charles Thomas Anderson.

1903 N.S.W Electoral Roll
Division of Lang
Rockdale Polling Place

ANDERSON Arthur John Farr-street Carter
ANDERSON Edward Farr-street Labourer
ANDERSON Kate Mary 40 Farr-street
ANDERSON Rose May Farr-street

I just looked back and can't find Charles T. in 1903, I'm wondering if he made regular trips to Victoria??

cheers

Hello crankypants,

Thank you. There is a gap between 1888 in the Sands Directory and the 1930 Electoral Roll. I have no idea where Charles T & Jane may have been or if they made frequent trips to Victoria or if they may have lived there.

I have matched them but I don't know yet if it is a coincidence they are in Farr St or if they are related.

338/1877 ANDERSON EDWARD H FLASHMAN KATE S SYDNEY
338/1877 ANDERSON EDWARD HENRY HASHMAN KATE SYLVESTER SYDNEY

This looks like his birth but it does not help me since I don't know who the parents of Charles T are yet or where he was born.

V18516907 45C/1851 ANDERSON EDWARD H EDWARD CATHERINE
V185157 51/1851 ANDERSON EDWARD H EDWARD CATHERINE

10024/1902 ANDERSON ARTHUR J NAPPER ROSA M ROCKDALE

I don't know who Arthur J's parents are. It's not obvious from the NSW BDM how he fits in.

V1847278 78/1847 ANDERSON EDWARD RYAN CATHERINE JB

Well, that almost rules out Edward H as being a sibling and Edward and Catherine as being Charles T's parents if he was born in 1845.

Hmmm....

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Thank you very much.

I'm tending to the idea the other ANDERSON family in Farr St is not related and that like Jane, Charles was born in Scotland.

:D

I know she was born in 1848 but the record can't be found. Perhaps we won't find one for Charles either.

Regards,

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Charles & Jane had six children and apart from Robert G the only other one I can't find a marriage or death for is their youngest, Helen A born in 1886 in Sydney.

269/1886 ANDERSON HELEN A CHARLES JANE SYDNEY

I had her married to Charles DUVAL but it seems that was my mistake:

Charles Allen DUVAL married Helen Agnes ANDERSON. Helen died in 1983 at the age of 99 - her parents were Charles and Mary Jean ROBERTSON

DU VAL Helen Agnes Death notice 26AUG1983 Death 98 SMH 27AUG1983

Marriages Mar 1872
Anderson Charles Walsall 6b 821
Robertson Mary Jane Walsall 6b 821
============================

I wonder if she died young or ended up in Victoria?

Dave

Hi Dave

Could Helen's middle name be AITKEN.

For Helen born 1886 she would only have been listed after 1907 (age 21) so the Helen Anderson in Victoria for 1903, is the same in 1909 independant means, so not her.

Hello crankypants,

Thanks for checking that one. Oh, you are correct. And no middle name anyway.

Re Helen's middle name, I don't know. All I can say is that it's not from Jane's side.

Dave

Hello crankypants,

Thank you.

If Emma is a sibling of Charles T then, yes she could have died by 1919.

Dave

Hello crankypants,

 That was going to be my next question: Can you find them in the 1851 census.

I'll get back to you shortly.

Hello crankypants,

So far I can't find Charles T in the shipping records. I don't know yet if he arrived alone or if he arrived with his parents.

I have found three, yes three siblings:

Ida 1864 Sydney Reel 2139, [4/4798]; Reel 2482, [4/4986]
ANDERSON Robert 20 and relations
ANDERSON Emma 14
ANDERSON Esther 10

Births Mar 1853
Anderson Esther Wilkinson Chorlton 8c 509

So, they should be somewhere in 1851 and 1861. Please see if you can find them, possibly without Charles??

Thanks.
